New Song School Of The Arts

Tara Hunter

Tara H.

Early Childhood Music, Piano, Voice

Ms. Tara has a passion for teaching students at all points on their musical journey. Across 20 years of teaching experience, her students have ranged in age from infants to 90 years old. Her philosophy is that everyone can grow from any point and that music can be an enriching, healing, challenging, and transforming part of our lives! She is passionate about developing whole musicians and incorporates technique, music theory, aural skills, sight reading, stage presence, and improvisation while keeping the joy of music at the heart of her teaching.

Growing up in a military family, moving from Germany to New York, Texas to Hawaii, Ms. Tara had the opportunity to learn from a wide range of cultures, teachers, and pedagogical philosophies. These experiences instilled in her a curiosity for learning and a passion for education.

Some of Ms. Tara’s favorite teaching experiences were while living and teaching ESL in Japan and Mexico City. She loved teaching preschool at ‘My Father’s House’, a non-profit that offers housing and educational opportunities to single mothers. While earning her BA in Music at the University of North Texas, she worked with other students and alumni to establish a non-profit, bilingual music school serving the Arlington area. Going into her fifth year with New Song School of the Arts, it has been a joy to work with a studio of 30+ students and 40+ families in the Music Together program!

Ms. Tara believes that the best way to inspire her students is by modeling a continued pursuit of musical growth in her own life. She enjoys ongoing educational and creative opportunities including piano and vocal masterclasses, early childhood song workshops with Music Together®, and the Broadway Teacher’s Workshop in NYC. Combining her many interests, she works with a local composer to direct and perform in an annual circus that includes dance, opera, shadow puppeteering, and a host of other DFW talent!
