Additionally, our students have the opportunity to display their artwork in local galleries, further celebrating their talent and providing real-world exposure. From time to time, select student art pieces will also be available for purchase, offering a unique opportunity to own one-of-a-kind creations.
For adults, NSSOTA offers Paint ‘N Sip Parties, held twice a month on Saturday evenings at the Arts Center. These relaxed, social events provide the perfect environment to explore creativity, unwind, and enjoy a supportive and fun atmosphere.

CORE AREAS OF FOCUS:
At NSSOTA, our visual arts program emphasizes foundational principles and professional techniques to help students create meaningful and impactful art. Our areas of focus include:
Sighting
Students learn to accurately represent 3-D space, form, and proportion on a 2-D surface. By using techniques like measurement, placement, and understanding positive/negative space, students develop the ability to translate real-world forms into visually compelling compositions.
Elements of Design
Artists explore the effective use of line, shape, space, form, value, color, and texture. By mastering these elements, students can create compositions that are visually clear and emotionally engaging.
Principles of Design
Students learn to arrange design elements with consideration for balance, emphasis, movement, pattern repetition, proportion, rhythm, variety, and unity. This understanding helps students create harmonious and dynamic works of art.
Technique
Proper rendering techniques are taught and enforced to promote artistry and excellence in presentation. Students learn how to refine their work to reflect professionalism and attention to detail.
Composition
Students are encouraged to consider all aspects of visual hierarchy and eye-flow to guide the viewer’s attention through their composition. This focus ensures each piece is both visually appealing and conceptually strong.
Execution
Our program emphasizes the importance of completing and presenting finished works. Students have opportunities to showcase their art through competitions, personal shows, and our twice-yearly professional art galleries.
Fine Arts Explorer Program
Not sure where to start when choosing a fine arts focus? Allow us to help you in this process.
Try Music. Try Art. Try Theatre. Do 4 consecutive private lessons or group classes in each. Toward the completion of the third study, choose which you would like to continue learning.
Young Scholars Program
The Young Scholars Program (YSP) emphasizes specific aspects of music such as music theory, music history, music appreciation, etc. This program creates strong musicians and is meant to compliment private lessons but is also perfect for a student not yet studying an instrument. Students in YSP desire a fun, engaging, in depth, and academic approach to musical knowledge and awareness. The “Young Scholars Program: Music Theory Class” incorporates thought-provoking activities and academic exercises that develop an understanding of the “nuts and bolts” of music. The class course culminates with the Texas State Theory Exam, and the student will be awarded based upon their test score. Relatedly, annual participation in the Texas State Theory exam looks great on college or scholarship applications.
