Enrollment & Scheduling

When should I start my child in fine arts lessons?

Anytime is the right time. Our youngest student is 7 months old. We have classes that range from early childhood to senior adults. One of the beauties of a fine arts education is that people of all ages can learn the arts.

What is the best fine arts path forward for my child?

Not sure where to start when choosing an instrument or group class? Allow us to help you in this process.

  • MUSIC EXPLORER PROGRAM: Try three different instruments and do 4 consecutive lessons in each. Toward the completion of the third instrument, choose which instrument to continue learning.
  • FINE ARTS EXPLORER PROGRAM: Try Music. Try Art. Try Theatre. Do 4 consecutive private lessons or group classes in each. Toward the completion of the third study, choose which you would like to continue learning.

How does the schedule for Fine Arts Education work?

Fine arts learning is a continuous process and does not follow a “seasonal” schedule like sports or dance. We encourage year-round participation to maintain progress, even through the summer months when school is not in session. Enrollment is open at any time.

What if I need a schedule change for my recurring weekly lesson?

We all live busy lives. At New Song School of the Arts, we do our best to make it easy for you to adjust your lessons. Simply submit your request to the Schedule Department via the form provided, allowing at least 2 weeks for processing.

Attendance & Lesson Policies

What if I have to miss a Private Lesson/Group Class?

Missed Private Lessons:
In the event you are not able to attend your weekly private lesson in person at the scheduled time, please choose one of the following options:

Option 1: Virtual Lesson via Zoom or FaceTime
Call the office at 214-915-2787 or email sc******@ns****.com at least five hours prior to your scheduled lesson to arrange a virtual lesson.

Option 2: Reschedule Credit
A reschedule credit will be issued when a lesson is canceled with 24-hour notice. To cancel your lesson, log in to your NSSOTA Client/Student Portal at nssota.opus1.io/login.
Note: Do not include the period in the link.

  • Cancellations with less than 24-hour notice will not qualify for a reschedule, including being sick on the day of a scheduled lesson.
  • Reschedule credits cannot be rescheduled.
  • There are no tuition refunds for missed lessons.

Missed Group Classes:
Students may attend another group class session in lieu of a missed group class. Log in to your NSSOTA Client/Student Portal to cancel the affected group class and receive a reschedule credit. To book your reschedule credit, contact the office.

My child is sick; can I reschedule their lesson?

Reschedule credits are provided with 24-hour notice. If your child is ill but able to participate, virtual lessons can be arranged. Contact the office for help.

Is it OK to miss lessons?

Sometimes life happens, but please do everything possible to attend lessons consistently. Fine arts learning is a step-by-step process, and progress is earned.

  • Avoid scheduling activities that interfere with weekly lesson times.
  • Consistency in attendance honors your investment and supports your child’s success.

Student & Parent Engagement

How do I know what my child is supposed to be practicing?

Practice expectations will be recorded in either your child’s NSSOTA student binder or the Client/Student Portal. Notifications are sent when the teacher updates the portal.

How long should my child practice each day?

Practice time varies based on schedules and family dynamics. Set realistic goals for weekly and daily practice.

Can I sit in on my child’s lesson?

Yes, parents are encouraged to sit in on lessons, especially for children 6 and under. If your presence is a distraction, consider rejoining the lesson for the final 3–5 minutes to observe the wrap-up and understand practice expectations.

What is my role as a “fine arts” parent?

Encourage, encourage, encourage! Use positive reinforcement like, “I love hearing you play” or “Your art makes me so happy” instead of negative phrasing like “Go practice now!” or “If you don’t practice, I’m taking you out of lessons.”
