Mr. Jonathon is an inspirational and dedicated piano and voice instructor. Originally a Chicago Northwest Suburban native, he has been teaching music since 2010.

Mr. Jonathon is an active pianist, collaborative pianist, organist, vocalist, composer, choral director and conductor, chamber musician, and music educator. He has built a fine reputation between the cities of Chicago and Detroit. His knowledge of music literature ranges richly from Early Music to Modern/Contemporary.

Being influenced by the Italian School of Singing and the Russian School of Piano Playing, Jonathon’s unique and adaptable teaching methods creates for his students an enriching study in keyboard/vocal literature, music theory, ear training, sight- reading/singing, solfege, music composition, and basic music history. Many of his students won competitions, had successful auditions, participated in masterclasses with distinguished artists, and performed in numerous recitals and festivals. Mr. Jonathon teaches students ages 3 to senior and at all levels of study.

Education and Accomplishments

  • B.M. in Piano Performance with Emphasis in Vocal Studies from Northeastern Illinois University – Chicago, IL
  • Recipient of the NEIU Full-Tuition Music Talent Scholarship, Emily Vinson Stoffa Scholarship in Music, and the Rev. John M. Krump Music Scholarship.
  • NEIU undergraduate protégé of Dr. Elyse Mach, who’s a distinguished international piano pedagogist, author, and board member of the American Franz Liszt Society.
  • Selected to participate in the Chicago Piano Festival held at Northeastern Illinois University. (Summer 2012)
  • Undergraduate Intern for the 1 st and 2 nd Annual Chicago Chamber Music Festival held at Northeastern Illinois University. (Summer 2013 and 2014) Graduated Cum Laude (2015)
  • Invited by Steinway & Son’s representatives to perform a recital on Vladimir Horowitz’s piano during its 2015 Chicago tour.
  • Former member of the prestigious Six Piano Ensemble of Oakton Community College (Des Plaines, IL) under the direction of Glenna Sprague during the 2016-2017 performance season.
  • Former professional tenor and scholist for the historic Saint John Cantius – Chicago, IL (2016-2019)
  • Former professional tenor and scholist for the historic St. Joseph’s Archdiocesan Shrine – Detroit, MI (2020-2021)
  • Piano masterclass participant with Dr. Charles Allen Anderson (2012), Steve Zivin (2012), Dr. Kay Kim (2012), Dr. Nelita True (2013), and Dr. Yulia Lipmanovich (2017 & 2018)
  • Vocal masterclass participant with Nicole Cabell (2014)
  • Chamber music masterclass participant with Dr. Kay Kim (2014), Nazar Dzhuryn (2015), and Vadim Mazo (2017)
  • He studied piano from 2017-2020 with distinguished Russian pianist, Dr. Yulia Lipmanovich, who’s one of the last remaining students to have studied with Madame Rosina Lhevinne at the Juilliard School of Music.

  • Member of Music Teacher’s National Association, Fort-Worth Chapter of the American Guild of Organist, Church Music Association of America, and the American Choral Directors Association.
