Ms. April is an experienced teacher with a love for students that is evident through the care and attentiveness she shows for them. Finding ways to adapt her teaching, she customizes lessons to the needs of each student.

April began her undergraduate studies at Collin College in guitar performance under the guidance of Dr. Fernand Vera. She then transferred to Oklahoma City University after being awarded the M. Petree Music Memorial Scholarship, where she earned her BM with an emphasis in guitar performance.

While at OCU, Ms. April studied under Dr. Lynn McGrath, Dr. Stephen Lochbaum, and Matthew Denman. She then went on to serve as the Graduate Teaching Assistant to Dr. Stephen Mattingly at the University of Louisville, where she received her Master’s of Music.

Ms. April has received recognition from multiple festivals and competitions including first prize at the Brownsville Guitar Festival in 2016 and prize winner and honors from the Guitar Foundation of America Symposium, Mountain View Competition, Collin College Competition, Young Artist’s Showcase at Collin College, and the Hill County International Ensemble Contest.

With years of teaching experience, Ms. April continues to share her love for music with students of all ages and levels. Her teaching style is warm, gentle, and her spirit is accommodating and approachable.

Remaining inspired and in pursuit of excellence, Ms. April is completing her Doctoral Degree in Guitar Performance at the University of North Texas.
