Mr. Jonnathan is an eclectic guitarist, teaching artist, and arts administrator. Above all, he seeks to bring relevant and influential artistic experiences to new audiences and their communities. Mr. Jonnathan grew up between two worlds: his family’s deep ties to poetry, storytelling, and traditional Mexican music, and another made up of his love of exploring, learning, and experimenting. He began playing the guitar when he was eight. Through his experiments, research, and musical wanderings, he has collaborated with composers, vocalists, and instrumentalists in multiple styles, including the European classical tradition, jazz, rock, contemporary concert music, flamenco, and traditional Latin-American music. Mr. Jonnathan believes that music is most meaningful when it becomes a lifelong activity and practice, regardless of whether that practice is deeply personal, communal, or professional.
Beyond helping students learn how to play their instrument, Jonnathan is passionate about developing musical fluency and assisting them in exploring their own curiosity and creativity. In the last five years, he has focused his concert programs and workshops on helping audiences and participants connect with their creativity by engaging them in genuine music and learning experiences.
